the shining

i have chosen the shining for my thriller film becasuse its my best thriller ever and its really really scary, but not in an obvouse way.

in this sequence of the film the plot is starting to play out more (its starting to get more shocking and scary) Jack Torrance is the evil one of the film, but we dont become aware of this until the middle of the film, leaving the viewer whats going to happen next. in this picture it shows the man to be going crazy, this is what me and ruby have in mind for our movie.

I think some of the most scarest parts of this movie is the soundtrack, without the sound track i dont think it would be very scary. the music in this movie always shows us that something is going to happen, either it quickens or gets louder. such as when danny, the little boy in the film who rides towards the sinister Room 237, the music get scary and makes you look away, antisipating a jumpy out bit.

Also what i love about this fiilm is the scary and freaky stuff they have put in to show the past of the hotel such as the blood coming out the elevators and the twin girls who got killed by their father who went crazy.

showing there must have been a murder. (blood)

The ghost girls that were murdered. Even looking at this picture freaks me out. I find they are always included in a flash back, which is also what me and ruby want for our movie.

And finally the most iconic scary part of the movie is when jack (the man) has lost his mind and wants to kill his wife and danny.
this is the kind of face we need for our film, at the end of the sequence our murderer laughs and does an evil smile, which shows he is crazy and also freaks people out, so they will carry on watching the movie.

In my opinion the shining is the best thriller movie ever.

Book of Blood Analyse

I have chosen the film 'Book of Blood' because it is one of my favourite thriller movies and therefore i know lots about the plot, the characters and the overall film.

These first two pictures show how the character Simon who is played by Jonas Armstrong is hiding his face as he does not want to be recognised, he does this by having his hood up and his head down so you're unable to actually identify the character. This is an important aspect to a thriller as it keeps the audience intreged into who this mysterious character actually is. The character in mine and Dani's thriller is also going to hide his identity til the end so this scene will be helpful to us so we can get some ideas for our own.

This part of the movie shows when Simon hs been tracked and took to this deserted shed in the middle of no where with a man who as the view we don't know who he is or what he wants with Simon. He tells Simon he is going to kill him but wants to know why he has all the scars on his body so gives him a choice
Wyburd: [after ripping Simon's shirt open] Jesus Christ, son. You are a book of blood. Read it to me.
Simon McNeal: Why should I?
Wyburd: Well now...
[Wyburd picks up a knife and approaches Simon]
Wyburd: ...because here's the deal - we can do this nice and slow and painful, or I can make it relatively quick. Up to you.

Simon then agrees to tell Wyburd and the audience the story and so flashes back to how it all began. We also are going to use flashbacks in our thriller as they are a good way of showing the past and present to explain the story.

Simon begins to tell the story of how he had seen his brother die before it happened, this clip is a good close up shot which is like the one we are going to use at the end of our sequence as it shows the emotion and the full face of the main character.

This scene of where this girl gets killed is a key part of the film as this leads the characters to think this house is cursed which is the main story line. This scene is very gory and sets the tone for the rest of the movie to show it is going to be very brutal to watch as this scene is quite early on. This is what we plan to do in our movie to show how gory the rest of the film will be by setting a tone in the few minutes of footage.

Mary finds out about Simons gift and pursuades her to stay in the house in which that girl was killed in. She becomes obsessed with him only to find out he has been setting up all the things which he had said had been going on. This is a real twist in the story as you as a viewer believe it is going on aswell.
When the dead realise Simon is mocking them they get very angry and start to carve their stories on Simon's body. The Book of Blood. Lots of creepy stuff starts happening and Mary has flashbacks in the flashback to her childhood and the hand over her mouth. This is one of my favourite shot as it is very twisted and dramatic shot.

This scene is were Mary finds the power to speak for the dead as she believes she is their scribe. This shot shows great power as the hoverflies are swamming round her face.
In the other image Simon is completely being carved to death by the dead and can't take much more pain. I like this shot as you can see the pain in his face which really captivates how he's now begging the dead he was just mocking to give him sympathy.

This scene is the last scene in the flashback as Mary has pinned Simon up so she can read off him and make stories for the dead. This makes her lots of money however Simon is in lots of pain. I find this shot interesting even though it is shot from behind because it's like he is Jesus on the cross which makes you feel sorry for him. Mary who was obsessed with Simon is now making money out of his pain.
This is then where he runs away which is back to where the film started.

This is Wyburd killing Simon in the shed as Mary has ordered him to do this. He does this quick as Simon told him his story.
This shot allows you to see both the worry in Simon's face as he is about to die and you can also see the carvings in more detail from this angle. It also makes Simon look small.

This is Mary holding up Simon's body which she told Wyburd to skin so she could still write the stories from it as they kept carving after Simon was skinned.
This is the most powerful shot in the movie as it shows how Mary has dyed her hair blonde now she is rich from the books and also reveals how she has no pity for Simon and just wants his skin and not him. This shows the female dominance as she has ordered a man to do her dirty work and kill Simon.

Sounds

Sound effect we need to use;
Church bell
Groans and other disturbing noises
Spade clanging
Train and noises
Silence in church
Scuffing his feet
The laugh
Soundtrack

costum and character.

There is only one character in the beginning sequence that is introduced. He is a mysterious, weird and disturbed man.
The story line makes the man to be emotional and the victim of the story, which lead the viewers to relate and feel sorry for this unfortunate character. there is a sudden change however at the end of the sequence, when the viewers realise he is not the victim in fact  the villian who is not asking for forgiveness but actually enjoying his flashbacks.
He is going to be dress in dark clothing and to be very dirty, grubby and hairy, this is a typical stereotype of a potential murderer. His face will be hidden by a hat and neck balaclava so the audience do not see his face until the end. We are not showing his face to the audience til the end of the sequence so they can judge the character and not his face which also gives the story more mystery.
